IMPASTO PAINTING

Why you'll fall in love with it!

Impasto painting is a beautifully textured style where thick, buttery paint is applied to the canvas in bold, expressive strokes. Think of it like spreading whipped cream onto a surface—full-bodied and rich, with each swipe leaving behind dimension and character. Unlike painting with thin layers, impasto lets you play with texture, creating artwork that you can truly feel as well as see.

Traditionally, impasto is an oil painting technique, but here in our workshops, we’ll be mixing an impasto medium with acrylic paint. This combo gives us the same satisfying thickness, yet dries much faster and safer to handle. Plus, our acrylics are also eco-friendly, Australian-made, and non-toxic—so they’re better for us and the planet.

You’ll be using both palette knives and brushes, whichever feels right for you. While palette knives make it easy to lay down thick, vibrant strokes, brushes offer another layer of versatility and fun. And when it comes to impasto, it’s all about the feeling—there’s no right or wrong way to get that paint on the canvas! So come along, get your hands on some thick paint, and dive into the world of impasto. It’s expressive, a little messy, and all about bringing out your creativity in a whole new way!
