Artwork Description
Burnt Tracks was a bit of an unexpected journey. I’d started painting something completely different, but as the base layer took shape, inspiration struck, and I found myself heading in a whole new direction.
The result is an aerial view of a parched paddock—gritty, semi-arid ground textured with sand mixed into the paint. Scrubby little bushes are scattered across the scene, and the sheep tracks, a striking burnt orange, carve their way through the canvas, leading towards a trough.
The sheep themselves are brought to life with textured paint, giving them a pop that almost lifts them off the canvas. What I love most about textured pieces like this is how they change depending on the angle and light, casting shadows that bring a whole new perspective to the artwork.
This experimental piece celebrates the rugged beauty of dry, open land and the story it quietly tells.
