Description

Look Deeper, Think Deeper is large, layered, and quietly powerful. It’s an invitation as much as it is an artwork. Inspired by the intricate beauty of salt lakes from above, this piece goes beyond representation. It asks you to slow down, to notice, and to consider what lies beneath the surface — both in the landscape and within yourself.

Painted in deep, earthy reds and muted whites, the composition flows with the natural curves of water-carved lakes and the coarse, textured terrain that surrounds them. The addition of string, embedded into the surface, mirrors tracks left across the land — a subtle reminder of movement, memory, and mark-making. While aerial in perspective, this artwork is rooted in emotion, shaped more by feeling than form.

This piece came to life through process — over 40 hours of layered acrylic and sand, with areas of built-up grit beside smooth, flowing expanses. It was created with uncertainty, where each layer felt like a risk — and yet, in hindsight, every step carried it forward. The red of the salt lake seeps into the whites in unpredictable ways, creating natural patterns that feel both wild and intentional.

Look Deeper, Think Deeper explores the harmony between strength and delicacy — a recurring theme in my work and life. As a woman shaped by the Australian landscape, this balance mirrors the values instilled by generations before her: quiet resilience, grounded strength, and grace under pressure. There is healing in this landscape — a reminder that softness and grit can coexist, and that beauty often lies in the details we almost miss.

This is a statement piece — one that warms a space, holds attention, and creates room for reflection. It’s ideal for a home seeking calm determination or a space that craves connection to the land. Without overpowering, it stands strong — much like the story it tells.

  • All of my original art and art reprints are signed with an ‘S’ logo. This logo was the Storey family brand used by my Great-Grandfather, on what is now my Grandparent's cattle farm. The farm has been in the Storey name since the mid-19th century however the brand was only in use from roughly the 1930s to the 1960s on sheep. After shearing, the brand was dipped in dye and pressed to the sheep’s hind quarter. It would stain the wool for quite some time and be used to identify the sheep if they strayed.

I have immense pride in my origin, and I love that I am able to attach a piece of family history to the art that I create. I strongly believe that when purchasing art, it is incredibly important to feel a strong sense of passion from the artist through the painting. I hope that combining my lineage with my art expresses this connection.
